Dear Trump Supporters,
Last week, I wrote about the House vote to censure Rep. Schiff for spreading lies and mentioned the House Republicans that voted “present.” Our Congressman Rutherford was one of them and after speaking with him, it is clear that he had no choice but to vote in this manner. Here is his explanation:
“This week, the House voted on H.Res. 521, a resolution to censure and condemn Representative Adam Schiff for misleading the American public by spreading false accusations that the Trump campaign colluded with Russia. I support an investigation into Representative Schiff and voted against House Democrats’ attempt to block Congress from holding him accountable to the American people. However, as a member of the House Ethics Committee, I am bound by Committee rules and fundamental due process considerations. For this reason, I joined my colleagues on the Ethics Committee in voting ‘Present’ on the underlying resolution, only after it had the votes to pass, to avoid any appearance of prejudgment that would conflict with my personal involvement in an impartial and unbiased investigation.
As a former law enforcement officer, I take my potential role in this investigation seriously.” Congressman John Rutherford
Thank you for standing by your conviction to the Ethics Committee rules.
